This spring will be the beginning of our second year of the Citizen Science Coverboard Project – Thank you to everyone who participated in Year 1!
Last spring was a bit cold and wildlife observations were minimal, but we were happy to see several photos of snakes sent in by mid summer! The first year for cover boards is always slow for seeing wildlife, but as the coverboards settle and the wildlife becomes accustomed to their placement, the animals will start using the objects for cover more frequently.Â

Citizen science initiatives are powerful mechanisms to help encourage environmental awareness and community involvement with  conservation projects.Â
8Trees is inviting more volunteer participants for the Citizen Science Coverboard Project! We are well on our way to establishing a robust network of coverboards across the region to better monitor the seasonal activity of our local salamanders and snakes.Â
We also encourage our current coverboard participants to keep up the good work!
