8Trees Inc. takes part in the 86th MidWest Fish & Wildlife Conference

January was an exciting month for 8Trees Inc. as we proudly took part in the 86th MidWest Fish & Wildlife Conference, one of North America’s leading gatherings for conservation professionals, researchers, and natural resource practitioners.

Our President & Senior Systems Ecologist, Anne Yagi, represented 8Trees Inc. during the conference’s “Snakes in Winter” session, where she delivered a compelling short presentation highlighting her research. Her presentation was called “From Birth to Bog: Evaluating Forced Hibernation as a Conservation Tool for Massasauga Rattlesnakes“.

This innovative research explores emerging conservation strategies designed to support the long-term survival of the Massasauga Rattlesnake, a species that plays a critical role in Ontario’s ecosystems and is often misunderstood. Anne’s work focuses on the science behind forced hibernation techniques and how they may contribute to improving survival rates and recovery efforts for this at-risk species.

Anne’s session sparked meaningful conversations among wildlife professionals and conservation leaders, emphasizing the importance of adaptive, evidence-based approaches to species recovery. She was invited to another conference in Ann Arbor, Michigan this September, so stay tuned for news on that seminar!

At 8Trees Inc., we are committed to advancing conservation through research, collaboration, and practical solutions that make a real-world impact. This conference allowed us to share knowledge, learn from peers, and continue contributing to the protection of biodiversity across Ontario and beyond.
