Bog Bioblitz 2026

Join 8Trees for a Wainfleet Bog Bio Blitz

8Trees Inc. is excited to invite you to participate in our upcoming Wainfleet Bog Bio Blitz at the end of May!

This one-day field event will bring together students, researchers, naturalists, and community members to help collect important biodiversity and population survey data within the Wainfleet Bog, with a special focus on turtles.

Participants will work alongside experienced field biologists and conservation staff to assist with survey efforts, data collection, and species observations throughout the day. Whether you’re an experienced field researcher or simply passionate about conservation and local wildlife, we would love to have you join us.

The Bio Blitz is part of 8Trees’ ongoing conservation work in the Wainfleet Bog, one of Ontario’s most ecologically significant wetland systems and home to many species at risk.

Event Details
Date: Wednesday May 27, 2026 (May 29th back up day)
Location: Wainfleet Bog, Ontario
Time: 10 AM (try to arrive 15 mins early)
Who Can Attend: Students, researchers, naturalists, nature club members, and anyone interested in conservation and field biology

What to Expect:

  • Hands-on field experience
  • Opportunities to learn survey techniques from professional biologists
  • Species observations and biodiversity monitoring
  • Networking with others interested in ecology and conservation

Please plan to be outdoors for approximately 4–6 hours and bring your own food and water. Dress appropriately for wetland field conditions, including waterproof footwear (tall rubber boots or hip/chest waders are ideal), long pants, sun protection (hat and sunscreen), and insect protection, as the bog is known for ticks and mosquitoes. Additional event details, meeting location information, and safety protocols will be shared with registered participants closer to the date.

Please note that everyone must sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (we are working with rare and sensitive species) upon arrival on site.

If you are interested in attending, please register using this form by May 22nd.

We hope you can join us for a day of science, conservation, and wetland exploration!

NOTE:
Funding for conservation work has been limited for some time. If you wish to help out but cannot attend our volunteer events, please consider donating to support our student mentorship program!Â
