April highlights

Kick starting our season with Amphibian calling surveys and Earth Day!

As April rolled into spring, things didn’t just bloom — they woke up. Early in the season, our team was already out in the field launching amphibian surveys across the Niagara region. From searching for salamanders under cover to listening for calling frogs at night, we’ve been working alongside students on research projects while also supporting ongoing consulting work. It’s one of our favourite times of year — when science, conservation, and real-world impact all come together (often a little muddy, and always worth it!).

Amid the fieldwork, we had the incredible opportunity to join the vibrant Earth Day event in Thorold on April 25th. A day filled with community spirit, sustainability, and meaningful connections.

From the moment we set up our booth, the energy was contagious — conversations about species at risk, our newest products, and plenty of buzz around our Kids Craft Corner filled the air.

One of the biggest highlights of the day was seeing so many families stop by to take part in our butterfly craft. Kids dove right in, creating their own colourful butterflies while learning a bit about pollinators and their role in healthy ecosystems. It was hands-on, a little messy, and exactly the kind of connection to nature we love to spark (note to self: capture some of those masterpieces next time!).

Thorold’s Earth Day also highlighted local initiatives, from community gardens to waste reduction programs — all of which align closely with our mission to support both ecological health and community engagement.

If you missed us in Thorold, don’t worry — we have more events coming up! Follow us on Instagram & Facebook for announcements and updates!
